The interview process wasn’t that hard to do. Setting up properly seemed to be on of the issues we ran into. We probably should have called our subject earlier because she was getting restless during our shot set up. We also had problems with audio and location so we ended up having to set up again in another location.

directing actors was needed for this video they ere easily distracted and often burst out laughing. Sometimes what we wanted them to do wasnt interpreted the way we wanted to so we had to act out the scenes ourselves.

another difficulty in this was shadows and reflections they were everywhere and cutting them out was slightly annoying.

made a video using Final Cut Pro. I had difficulty in condensing the material down while maintaining a story. It was hard to establish a character within the time limit. I also found it annoying that every video cilp i would create in the program was a sequence so I abandoned this method.

Got a face lift…

Finally using that space that I’ve had these few years. It took a while but I was finally able to finish most of it. The sword looking like thing on the home page was definitely a distracting ordeal. Perhaps things such as those will come easier in the future; I know I can come up with a better looking design than that thing.

To create the header you see above I began with a black background. I then added several different layers of multicolored lines which i smudged to create a smokey effect; this was lessened as more color layers were added. I then typed in the text you see above. Creating the transparent effect several steps involving custom layer blends were used. I enabled Drop Shadow, Inner Shadow, Outer Glow, and Bevel and Emboss with in the layer styles box

Alright improve a photo of a friend sounds simple enough. Unfortunately it happend to be raining the day I took this so it was overcast, hair was wet, etc.

So I defiantly messed up this photo. I found this person in a group of 3 and by the 3rd picture I had decided that opening up my aperture a bit might be a good idea; unfortunately this was picture number 2….

Therefore, to begin this edit I had to brighten it up a bit so in the picture labeled 2 above you can see the difference between the original and my base for the touch up/edit process.

After tweaking a bit I was happy with the results. I had brightened things in the picture and you can see this in the picture numbered 3 above. Essentially I changed skin tone, eye bright/whiteness, teeth, and cloned oaver a little acne which was on her face that day. Then I thought why not take it to another level and go for “perfect” skin. So I started using the patch tool…

Patching over the skin defiantly made be feel a bit uncomfortable. And I kept going to a point, patching over moles, wrinkles, and some flushed areas. I’m pretty sure I could remove every freckle from her face if I wanted to…

Funny I view editing peoples faces as grossly more unethical than the Alan Detrich incident we read about. I mean he removed a pair of legs. Legs which technically could have been cropped out of the photo for a similar effect. Minus a team member I guess… I wonder what the result would have been if it was cited as a “photo illustration”…

Anyway not sure which picture I’m going to use probably the latter as I guess it’s more magazine/yearbook/portrait -esque.

Photoshop is a powerful tool

A “photo illustration” created using Adobe Photoshop. the tools within photoshop that I believe had the most impact on this faux ad were: the cropping tool, the filter gallery,and I suppose the text tool or clone stamp in third.

I took this picture with a binder blocking the sofa in the background because a) the sofa had a cloth covering the seat cushions b) a solid background would be easier to edit. I had intentionally put a piece of paper in the binders front sleeve but completely forgot that a black line would remain in the photo. I tried to edit this out but it didn’t turn out like I wanted so i just used the original.

Anyway the cropping tool was helpful as there was still a bit of the sofa showing in the original. Also it helped me fit the picture with in the space requirements for this assignment.

The displacement filter allowed me to superimpose a picture of a British flag on the tea bag and wrap that picture around the curves and wrinkles.

Finally the text tool allowed me to…write text on the picture as well as a slogan of the company.

And the clone stamp let me put some clouds on the top of the picture.

I had no problem wasting this tea as I am not a fan of it.

To achieve this photograph i shut off all the lights in the room and used a red headlight to illuminate the text on cartridge. Then I simply ran to the door and to use the light in the hallway for a silhouette effect. The blur was achieved through using the super macro setting which created a shallow depth of field.
